Jakarta Receives International Award in Transportation Field

Jakarta Government achieved the title of Honorable Mention from Sustainable Award Committee at the 2020 Sustainable Transport Award (STA) event held at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C. on January 14, 2020.

This title was given for Jakarta Government's efforts in developing Transjakarta's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and increasing number of passengers until 200 percent within three years.

"This achievement will motivate us to be better in developing integrated transportation system to make Jakarta becomes a safe and comfortable place to live in," she mentioned, Thursday (1/16).
She informed, Jakarta became one of the nominees of 2020 STA because of many positive changes in Jakarta related to the sustainable transportation system.
"In addition to fantastic increase in the number of Transjakarta passengers, Jakarta is also considered successful in integrating BRT system with microbus (angkot) service as well as the first metro (MRT) system that provides additional modes of public transportation for Jakartans," she explained.
According to her, Jakarta also succeeded in improving pedestrian facilities and access to public transportation stations and stops and creating hubs to integrate with various modes of transportation.
"Increase in number of Transjakarta passengers, integration between modes and pedestrian facility development makes Jakarta to meet the criteria to be nominated for 2020 STA," she mentioned.
For information, 2020 Sustainable Award is a part of the 17th Annual Transforming Transportation Conference where the delegates from Jakarta Government also presented the transportation development in Jakarta in the 'Transforming Transportation' panel session on January 16, 2020 at the same location.
Jakarta included as the nominee together with 12 cities in the world, such as Richmond (USA), San Jose (Costa Rica), Kingston (Canada), Bogota (Columbia) and others.
In the process, Jakarta passed to the semifinal until occupied the top three positions along with Pune (India) and Kigali (Rwanda).
